Bowlers held the trump cards in a low scoring week three of the Kent Cricket League Premier Division.
Newly promoted Hayes remain the only unbeaten side after their comfortable five wicket win at the other side to come up, Minster. The hosts were asked to bat first and were rolled over for just 111, a total that was boosted by wicketkeeper number ten Oliver Dewey who crashed 46 not out off just 36 deliveries. Andrew Eddicott returned a remarkable 3 for 11 in his ten overs.
Although their first three did not score as many as they would have liked, Kent’s Alex Blake steadied the Hayes nerves with 56 not out, which included five sixes, from 52 deliveries.
Away to Tunbridge Wells, Lordswood’s unbeaten start was ended when they were bowled out for 87. Michael Waller took 3 for 6, and Christian Davis 3 for 12. That was never going to be enough although the hosts did lose six wickets before passing the total with over 25 overs to spare.
Also on the road, the other unbeaten side to taste defeat for the first time this summer was Sandwich Town. They lost at previously winless Bexley.
Having won the toss, Sandwich elected to bat and Zack Fagg anchored the innings with a solid 78, supported by Alex Smith with 40. Although they were without opening bowler Jas Singh, on Kent duty, Bexley were boosted by the return of talisman Adam Ball, and he returned figures of 4 for 37.
Matthew Stiddard continued his fine early season form by scoring 74, and Ben Aldred scored 35 as the reigning champions recovered from 81 for 4 to win by four wickets with just over three overs remaining.
Winless Sevenoaks Vine suffered the lowest score of the day when bowled out for just 45 at home to Blackheath. The visitors won the toss and chose to bat. Their first four all got into the twenties but could not build on the before Jahid Ahmed, with 44, guided them to 181 all out. Andrew Reid-Dick and Luke Schlemmer each took 3 for 24.
Only one Sevenoaks player made double figures as Ahmed followed up his batting exploits by taking 5 for 14 and Arafat Bhuiyan claimed 3 for 6.
Beckenham’s wait for their first win of the season continues as they were well beaten at Bickley Park. The hosts elected to bat first and were another team indebted to runs down the order. After being 59 for 5, Alex Moen’s 52 saw them through to 153 all out. Kamran Khan took 4 for 19 and Adam Senn 3 for 26.
Max Luckett’s opening burst proved too much for Beckenham who were soon reduced to 22 for 4.
He returned figures of 3 for 11 then Daniel Magin claimed 4 for 17 as the visitors were hustled out for 86.
