Kent League Premier Division week 16

Heavy rain meant that the entire Kent Cricket League Premier Division programme was flushed away on Saturday.

Having lost their last two matches to the bottom two clubs in the division, leaders, Minster had hoping to get back to winning ways. Their aim of winning the title was boosted by defeats for the teams in second and third place seven days earlier and they showed no sign of nerves when winning the Kent League T20 competition last Sunday. However, their game at home to Tunbridge Wells could not be played.

That might not be too bad for them as it now means that victory in one of their two remaining games, away to Lordswood and at home to Tunbridge Wells, would guarantee them the title even if one of Blackheath, St Lawrence & Highland Court, or Hayes win both of their games.

Second placed Blackheath had a local derby with Bexley, the visitors shorn of several key players, and would have hoped to put pressure on the leaders. The other two teams who could still nick the championship were due to meet. Both Hayes and St Lawrence & Highland Court were hoping to bounce back from respective defeats seven days earlier.

At the other end of the table, bottom club Bickley Park should have welcomed third from bottom Sandwich Town in the knowledge that a win for either would boost that teams’ chances of escaping relegation. Meanwhile Canterbury could have moved out of the bottom two had they beaten their guests Lordswood, themselves not one hundred percent safe from the drop.

Next weekend. Bickley Park host Hayes and Sandwich Town entertain Canterbury afterwhich the picture at the bottom could be a lot clearer ahead of the final week of the season. Lordswood, and the team who loses between Tunbridge Wells and Bexley, will also be looking over their shoulders as they could still get dragged into the battle.
