There was no change in the Kent Cricket League Premier Division table as all five matches were abandoned without a ball being bowled.
That was the second time in three weeks that all five games were abandoned but at least there was some cricket played on the previous occasion.
Hayes versus Bexley, Holmesdale versus Minster, Lordswood versus St. Lawrence and Highlands Court, Sevenoaks versus Sandwich Town and Tunbridge Wells versus Blackheath, all fell victim to Storm Anthony.
Four games remain with Bexley top of the table on 197 points. Eighteen points are available for a win so Lordswood, in second place with 188 points are still well in touch, while third placed Tunbridge Wells would need Bexley to lose one, either with no bonus points, or to have another abandoned or tied, Even then, Wells would need to win all of their matches to overhaul them as they are seventeen points adrift.
In fourth place, St. Lawrence would need a lot of results to go their way to win the title, and that would also be the case for Minster.
At the bottom, it’s also tight with two clubs facing the drop at the end of the season. Holmesdale looked ‘dead and buried’ a few weeks ago but have picked up of late. However, they returned to the foot of the table last week, two points behind Sevenoaks Vine. Blackheath and reigning champions Hayes are both less than eighteen points ahead of the bottom two and will be looking over their shoulders. Sandwich Town are more than one win clear of the relegation zone and would need a disastrous run of results if they were to be drawn into the battle.
Hopefully, the rest of August’s weather will improve as there is much intrigue at both ends of the table.
