The Kent Kings will get their speedway campaign underway next month as the dirt track racing season gets underway in earnest.
Central Park in Sittingbourne will once again be the stage for the Kent CTA Fire Kings Speedway team for their second season however fans will have to wait until Easter Monday to see their side at home, when Kings Lynn for the Easter Trophy.
Before all that though there is the small matter of three tough looking away trips in the National League, the National League Knock-out cup and the National Trophy.
Other dates in the Central Park calendar of particular note are the Kent Laurels’ individual championship on the following week, July 21st. (the holder of the famous-old title, first contested at a track run by the Cearns family over 60 years ago, is Simon Lambert – the Kings’ new number one rider) and the August Bank Holiday (25/8) visit of the Lakeside Young Hammers from neighbouring Essex.
On the big one-off championship front, the National Pairs is back in the Fens at Mildenhall again, in mid-June – the Kings were third there last term; meanwhile, the Fours moves to Coventry in August, with the Kent quartet aiming to go one better than their runners-up berth of last season.
The season climaxes with the National League individual Riders Championship at Rye House in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire in September – an event which holds many happy memories for Kent fans having seen then-skipper Steve Boxall triumph there last year.
