Bank Holiday action at Central Park Stadium today sees the 2015 and ’16 Travel Plus Tours National League [TPTNL] champions, Birmingham Brummies visiting in the latest stage of a now well established Speedway rivalry between the Second City side and the Kent SLYDE Kings.
The sides have met before in Cup semis and Finals and in some very close TPTNL encointers – including just 19 days ago when they drew 45-45 all up at the Brummies’ Perry Barr home track.
Kent have received a huge boost with the news that in-form reserve Alex Spooner (injured riding for the GB Young Lions last Tuesday at the Isle of Wight) is able to take his place in the Kings’ side on Monday evening.
The team also had a Sunday off as the scheduled visit all the way up to the Peaks to take on the Buxton Hitmen was a victim of the wet weather which swept the UK yesterday – meaning that all will be fresh (if a little battered in bruised in the 18-year-old Spooner’s case!) to take on the considerable challenge of the visit of the West Midlanders,
The Brummies currently lie one place behind second placed Kent in the TPTNL table, four points adrift but with one match in hand (their own Sunday match away to league leaders Mildenhall also being rained off) – so in the race for the top four the match is of huge significance.
The Brummies are at full strength – led by League averages-topping and recent winner of the prestigious Golden Hammer individual championship, Tom Bacon; and featuring of course former Kent favourite, James Shanes.
Teams [in alphabetical order]:
Kent SLYDE Kings:
Jamie Couzins; Taylor Hampshire; Paul Hurry; Anders Rowe; Alex Spooner; Nathan Stoneman; Jack Thomas
Birmingham Brummies:

The action at Central Park Stadium, just outside Sittingbourne is at the normal start time of 6.30pm (gates at 5pm). They’ll be Bank Holiday fun for the kids with the MunchKings’ running track races before the action. The meeting will also stage the annual collection at the track fore the sport’s charity, the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund.
