Kent Kings forced to cancel
Kent Kings forced to cancel
An Easter weekend to forget reached a new low when regrettably the Kent Speedway management had to admit defeat with their plans to stage the Easter Cup first leg match against Birmingham on Easter Monday – with an early decision to call off being made on Sunday (1st. April), having found the Central Park Stadium circuit already waterlogged after a weekend of awful weather and much more rain forecast throughout the Bank Holiday Monday.

The rain off was the third affecting the Sittingbourne-based club over Easter, having had to call off the Easter Chase challenge first leg scheduled for Good Friday and then see opponents Eastbourne Eagles do likewise on the Saturday, effectively scrubbing what was an eagerly anticipated two-legged local derby event.

The three postponements were in plenty of company  though, with an unwanted record-busting 17 rain offs bedevilling British Speedway over the holiday period – rain across nearly all of the UK meaning that so far only two of a scheduled 21 meetings so far have been able to be staged.

With both home Easter-themed challenge ties off, the new opening date for the 2018 Speedway season at Central Park Stadium will be Monday April 30th. –  6.30pm start time.  That will be a very special meeting indeed, with the 2018 SLYDE Kings taking on a Kent All Time Greats septet led by Kentish racing legend Paul Hurry and the two former Kings’ skippers who’ve brought the National League Riders Championship title back to Central Park during their time in the Invicta race jacket, Steve Boxall and Ben Morley.
For the current side it’s still a busy week stretching ahead of them with the Easter Cup leg away at Birmingham now going to be the side’s first outing of the season on Wednesday 4th. April and then getting their National Trophy campaign underway away to Plymouth Devils on Friday 6th.
