Kent Kings have announced that work on the speedway track at the Central Park Stadium in Sittingbourne is now well underway.
Co-promoter Len Silver confirmed “It’s good to know that the work on the sound barrier wall is increasing at pace and this, the biggest of all the jobs in the speedway installation, is now 25% complete and well on target time-wise.”
Silver continued “The final parts of the turf were removed on Thursday and the initial base material will start to be imported during the next 10 days, one week ahead of schedule. Shale will then be transported from the Midlands for installation in the middle of February to ensure that there is plenty of time for the track to settle and compact.”
“During this time the work will also start on the safety fence which will be designed to collapse on impact to ensure that there is nothing that will cause serious injury to any rider. To gain access to the Pits from its position, as required by the Town Planning Authority, a new vehicle entrance has to be cut through the high terracing and approximately 500 tons of material moved.”
“Security fencing will also be installed before work progresses. This section is due to be completed by the middle of March.”
Finally Silver was keen to confirm that “None of this construction will interfere with the Greyhound Racing activities.”
The first meeting at the track will take place on Bank Holiday Monday – Monday 6th May.
