Kent were frustrated in their attempt to make it back to back Championship wins as Hampshire batted out a draw at Canterbury.
The two sides went into the final day with Hampshire 15 for 0 in their second innings, still trailing by 93 runs, but their batsmen had one target in mind and that was batting out the day.
On a flat pitch and in the glorious Canterbury sunshine, their challenge was made easy on a surface that did very little for any of the Kent attack with the two sides agreeing shortly before 5pm that the game was a draw.
Resuming on 15 for 0, openers Michael Carberry and Jimmy Adams showed very little attacking intent in the first hour with both content to keep their wickets.
Adams’ 75 ball stay ended when he was on 12 with James Tredwell trapping him in front as he shouldered arms, with Kent having to wait another 24 overs before Carberry nicked Tredwell behind to Geraint Jones for 66.
As the sun bore down on the docile pitch, the Kent attack toiled away with little success, although Tredwell picked up his third wicket when he had James Vince caught by Rob Key for 4 at leg slip as he mis-timed a sweep.
Charlie Shreck was the only other bowler to enjoy any success as he had Sean Ervine caught by Darren Stevens at gully for 12.
Both Liam Dawson (78 not out) and Adam Wheater (18 not out) were happy to see out the remaining 19 overs of the day with the two teams calling it a day as Kent take eight points from the game.
Hampshire won the toss and elected to bat.
