Kent’s hopes of picking up their second Championship win of the season were ruined by the weather on the final day at Canterbury.
Needing just one further wicket to complete their victory against Gloucestershire, the players and staff were hopeful that on a day forecasted for rain, they would be able to get out for long enough to claim the final scalp they needed.
However, the rain began to fall just 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start of play at 11am, and apart from one 15 minute break in the afternoon, the conditions were unplayable, leaving the umpires to abandon the day’s play shortly after 3pm.
Kent’s opportunity of forcing the win came only after discussions between their skipper James Tredwell and the visiting captain Michael Klinger saw each side declare an innings early yesterday morning, with today’s forecast in mind.
Kent now turn their attentions back to the white ball game, taking on Nottinghamshire in their final YB40 match of the season to off Canterbury Cricket Week on Monday. Though the home side have no way of progressing to the semi-finals of the competition, the visitors are still in with a shot, and are likely to need a victory to take themselves through.
Kent’s next County Championship encounter sees them travel to Cardiff to take on Glamorgan at the SWALEC Stadium, starting a week on Tuesday (3 September).
