Just 55 overs were possible on the opening day of Kent’s County Championship game against Glamorgan at Canterbury with rain yet again played a part in proceedings.
Starting under overcast conditions and with new loan signing Mitchell Claydon drafted into the side for Matt Coles who was missing for personal reasons, it was Glamorgan that won the toss and elected to bat first.
The decision seemed to have backfired for skipper Mark Wallace though with his side reduced to 19 for 2 inside ten overs.
First to go was Will Bragg who nicked Calum Haggett behind to Geraint Jones for six with Ben Wright bowled by Haggett for just five a few overs later.
Some repair work from Stewart Walters and Marcus North helped push Glamorgan on with the former nicking Charlie Shreck to Jones for 38 shortly before the lunch interval.
Batting became harder after the break with North and Murray Goodwin prepared to pick off the bad balls with the light fading and the floodlights well in operation.
North was to fall four runs short of his fifty shortly before the early tea interval as he was the latest batsman to find an edge through to Jones off Haggett.
The players were to come out at 4pm, only for the rain to come shortly after with Glamorgan 155 for 4. Goodwin will resume on 35 not out with Jim Allenby 19 not out when play gets underway at 11am on Thursday.
