With the hard work continuing for Tommy Hill and BeWiser Kawasaki off the track it is almost time for the team to take to the track for testing.
Although Tommy wants everything to be in place and perfect before the team take to the track with riders Chris Walker and Danny Buchan on the ZX-10R.
Speaking about putting all the final pieces in place before testing the bikes for the first time, he said: “Testing is something that I would like to be out doing now but the facts are having been on the riders’ side of it, I can see why teams don’t go testing.
“We could have gone testing a month or so but we would only have had 50% of a bike and no spares and no back-up and that could have easily turned around and added pressure for both the team and the riders.
“It is important for me now to go testing as a team manager with the right machinery and have every possible update that we can have on the bike to give the riders the confidence. We need to have the infrastructure and spares on the test, if we have a crash without those parts then it is bad news.
“We need to make sure that we have everything that we can to make the test as smooth as possible and support the riders in doing that. It is quite easy as a team to set testing dates but we don’t really want to do it until we have all the parts, all the walls are turning up in the middle of January but that could be pushed back until the end of January.
“It is important to have the infrastructure and to go testing when we are ready and hopefully that is the best approach. We are eager to get out testing as the riders are, I need to manage it and make sure that we are ready for the opening corner at Donington Park in April.”
Being from Kent Tommy was keen to maintain roots in the county with his new team and he has done that with the Kent based KMS Group.
Giving his thoughts on what he is looking to achieve with KMS and their associated companies, Tommy added: “It is great with Brands Hatch being in Kent and the sponsors being local to the track as well, for them it works perfectly for them and their clients.
“They also have a hospitality suite at Brands Hatch for all three British Superbike rounds and we can tie that in with our team sponsors. They have a better viewing platform for the races. They are a good bunch down there with a few companies.
“We are going to be running with Qube Recruitment, Qube Construction and KMS Group on the bike, the KMS group are the ones that manage all of those companies and they want to reap the benefit of getting as much exposure out of it as they can.
“It is nice that they are local to Brands and I am local to Brands Hatch, we can also work hard on the business they are working in. They are going to run a business working event at Brands Hatch for us come February/ March time. They also work a lot with charities and invite guests down for the charities that they work with.
“We are going to give them a different thing to look at and it as a different sport and to get some of these young people down and to see what British Superbikes is all about.
“We have done introductions for all of our team sponsors and within three days there are already sponsors talking about doing business with each other. That is a major part of making sure that each sponsor continues their sponsorship beyond 2015, I am already looking ahead because you need to.”
