Kent’s latest County Championship game has ended in defeat as they were beaten by Glamorgan by an innings and eleven runs.
Starting day four in the tricky position of being 137 for 5, still trailing the home side by 137 runs, it came as no surprise that the game was wrapped up in the first slightly extended session.
There was to be some late order resistance from the Kent batsmen with Adam Ball passing fifty and Adam Riley scoring a career best score, but in the end it was too little, too late for the visitors.
Glamorgan made the breakthrough they so desperately wanted in just the second over of the day as Darren Stevens (60) loosely drove to Ben Wright at cover to give Australian Michael Hogan yet another wicket.
After a couple of quick boundaries from Sam Billings, the Kent wicketkeeper was to edge Graham Wagg behind to the waiting Mark Wallace for 14, leaving Kent in deep trouble at 164 for 7.
Some resistance from Adam Ball and Mitchell Claydon took Kent past the 200 mark before the latter edged Dean Cosker to Jim Allenby at slip for 17.
Ball was to bring up his fifty off just 83 balls with seven boundaries as Kent looked to make the home side bat again, but was to be dismissed by Hogan, playing onto his leg stump.
Adam Riley and Robbie Joseph saw Kent past the scheduled 1pm interval, but lasted not long after with Joseph surviving numerous chances before edging Hogan to Allenby at slip, taking a superb rebounded catch.
That left Riley stranded on 23 not out, his career best County Championship score, but more importantly Kent were 263 all out and had lost by an innings and 11 runs with Michael Hogan claiming ten wickets in the game.
Kent will now switch their attention to their Natwest Blast T20 game against Sussex at Canterbury on Friday night.
