Kent clubs learn FA Cup fate

The Second Round draw for this season’s FA Cup has been far from kind for the three remaining Kent clubs, sending all three on tough road trips.FA Cup draw

The only one potentially smiling will be Chris Kinnear’s Dover Athletic who will be heading for Stadium MK to face the MK Dons, who are currently just outside the Play Off places in SKYBet League One.

The Dons beat AFC Halifax Town 4-1 in Saturday’s first round, but did lose 3-2 at Priestfield a few short weeks ago.

Priestfield was a frustrated and relieved place on Saturday when Bradley Dack’s late, late equaliser kept Gillingham in the competition.

But the draw has done Peter Taylor’s side no favours at all for if they overcome (as expected) Brackley Town in the replay, they will travel to face a Macclesfield Town side who dumped Swindon out of the competition – indeed Swindon were so poor manager Mark Cooper issued an open apology to travelling fans for what they had seen.

That said, the Gills have only lost once (in four) visits to the Moss Rose.

Spare a thought for Jamie Day’s Welling United. After dumping Luton Town out of the competition on Saturday, Sundays draw send’s Jamie Day’s side travelling 160 miles to the north and Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank – the side that Day’s side beat 1-0 in the Conference just last weekend – or the 250 mile trip west to Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park – they drew 0-0 at Lincoln on Saturday and will replay the same night as the Gills travel to Brackley.
