The First Round draw for the FA Cup has been made for Kent’s remaining sides and all must think that they have a chance of progressing.
The first Kent team out of the hat were Chris Kinnear’s Dover Athletic who face a trip to Northamptonshire to face Corby Town who currently sit in the lower positions of the Calor League Southern Premier Division and won 3-1 at Colwyn Bay in the 4th Qualifying Round.
Peter Taylor’s first venture back into the competition will see Conference North opposition heading for Priestfield as the Gills will face either Brackley Town or Barrow, who replay in Cumbria on Tuesday after a 0-0 draw at the weekend.
Welling United’s reward for winning at Brislington courtesy of Lee Clarke’s goal at least gives them a home tie at Park View Road, but Jamie Day will be slightly disappointed that his side missed out on a League side.
Instead they host Luton Town who are currently third in the Conference. It’s worth noting that if the game goes to a replay, the two sides will face each other three times in 15 days as they’ve a league game scheduled at Luton on November 26th.
The one “either/or” as far as our clubs are concerned sees the winner of the Ebbsfleet United / Dartford replay on their travels to Wiltshire to face Salisbury City who currently are just outside the play off zone in the Skrill Premier.
Tony Burman’s side indeed drew 1-1 with City at Princes Park just three weeks ago, and so it really will be all to play for in a fortnight’s time.
FA Cup 1st round draw:
Gillingham v Brackley Town or Barrow,
Corby Town v Dover Athletic,
Salisbury City v Dartford or Ebbsfleet United,
Welling United v Luton Town.
Ties to be played the weekend of 9/10th November.
