Kent bowlers Matt Coles and James Tredwell have been called up for the England Lions as they take on Australia A in a few week’s time.
The pair have been drafted into the thirteen man squad for the two four-day fixtures on 7th August at Old Trafford and the 14th August at Edgbaston.
Their call up will means they will miss the Canterbury week Championship fixture with Essex beginning on 8th August, most likely the CB40 game against Derbyshire on 12th August, the CB40 game against Warwickshire on 13th August and the Championship fixture against Gloucestershire at Bristol beginning on 15th August.
Eoin Morgan will captain the side that includes a number of players who have represented England at a senior level across different formats. Captain Eoin Morgan, Jonny Bairstow, Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit Patel and Kent off-spinner James Tredwell have already received England Test caps. All members of the squad have already been capped for England Lions.
National selector Geoff Miller said: “The Lions team and England Performance Programme plays an important role in the development of future England players and this fixture will present an opportunity for our players to show us that they are capable of representing England at Test level in the future.
“We expect Australia A to provide tough opposition and look forward to seeing how some of our most talented players outside the Test squad perform in these two matches.”
