KDFL teams progress to semi finals of FA People’s Cup

On Sunday 12th March 2017, 14 adult teams ascended on playfootball in Rainham to take part in the local heats of this year’s FA People’s Cup.

By Brian Gray

We had teams playing in the Premiership and championship competitions.

Joining the regular KDFL teams were Swale Tigers FC, a mental health team from Sheerness. The action took place on three pitches, premiership on 1 pitch and the championship on 2 pitches. The action got underway at 1pm and 3 hours of football followed, there was some hard fought matches in all divisions with everyone enjoying the chance to take part in such an event.

We were joined on the day by a surprise visit from the KDFL president Steph Gadd, whom had not been to an event in some months but fully enjoyed the time spent watching some football. Also Philip Smith vice chairman of Kent FA privileged us with his presence and watched some excellent football.

We took the opportunity of Philip Smith being at the venue by asking him to present the medals after the event. The winners of the premiership was Swale Tigers FC A closely followed by the runners up Charlton Athletic Ability Counts FC Red. The championship was eventually won by Anchorian Equal Teams FC B followed by Charlton Athletic Ability Counts FC White.

Our chairman Brian Gray had previously travelled to Charlton Athletic Ability Counts FC training on Thursday night to present the Orange league team with their medals for winning the league section.

All teams will be joining Bromley Green Valiants and Charlton Athletic Deaf FC under 16s in the semi finals that are being played at Goals in New Malden on Sunday 26th March.

We as a committee would like to wish all teams good luck and remember you are all “one step closer to Wembley”
