Stephen Kavanagh, Charlton’s CEO, has resigned from the club’s board but will continue with his CEO role.
Kavanagh joins Alex Newall and Peter Varney in exiting the Addicks board during the summer. Owners, Michael Slater, Tony Jiminez and Richard Murray are the only members left from the board that was in place at the end of last season. There has of course been much speculation regarding the club’s finances during the close season.
The continuing uncertainty and lack of signings is the last thing fans expected after last season’s success. Normally a promoted team carries the momentum into the new campaign, the ongoing situation at The Valley will, sadly, halt that in its tracks.
Martin Prothero joins the board next Wednesday and will ‘analyse the management structure’. Here is what Michael Slater said about the situation:
“Steve (Kavanagh) has simply tendered his resignation as a member of the board of directors – he was not asked to resign – and his resignation has been accepted by the other board members.
“The intention now is to allow incoming executive vice-chairman Martin Prothero time to analyse the management structure at the club before making recommendations as to the executive and senior management team going forward.”
You can read into that what you want but it is hardly going to fill the fans with confidence.
The talkSPORT website is carrying a story that Sam Baldock wants to join Charlton and is hoping Chris Powell makes a move. The Baldock saga is going round on ever decreasing circles.
The new black away kit will go on sale on Friday morning.
