Crystal Palace winger, Sullay Kaikai, finally completed his switch to the Addicks on Friday afternoon. He will spend the rest of the season at The Valley.
The deal was not concluded until after midday, so he will not be available for Saturday’s game at Blackpool.
Kaikai attracted interest from Championship duo, Barnsley and Brentford, as well as League One high flyers, Shrewsbury.
The Lambeth born 22-year-old had a successful loan spell with the Shrews during the 2015/16 season, scoring 12 goals in 23 League One starts.
Kaikai will be a real asset, and Karl Robinson was naturally delighted to finally get his man. Here is what he had to say after the deal was confirmed:
“It was an important one for us. He’s an exceptionally talented individual. We thank everyone who has helped in the process in trying to make this happen.
“We knew there were Championship teams that were interested in him. He’s an exciting player, we know we’ve got a player that can certainly score goals.
“He can play off the left, he can play as the nine, he can play behind the striker. He’s quick and he excites you, he adds to the type of players that we already have at the football club.”
Kaikai was pleased to get his immediate future resolved and said this:
“I’m delighted. It’s been going on for about a week now. I’m just delighted it’s over the line and looking forward to playing and showing the fans what I can do”
He went on to give his reasons for choosing Charlton:
“The manager played a big role in it (the move), the club, where they are in the table, their ambition, for me it was a no brainer.”
Kaikai will wear the number 11 shirt vacated by Ricky Holmes, and is likely to make his debut against Oxford at The Valley next Saturday.
