K Sport Cobdown’s brand new 3G pitch opened in style on Friday evening.
K Sports FC continued their fantastic run of form with victory over FC Elmstead, in front of a record-breaking crowd under the lights.
The host’s comfortable 4-1 win made it four successive wins as the club makes good progress alongside the regeneration work taking place at Cobdown.
On a historic night, just under 350 people saw K Sports take an early 2-0 lead, courtesy of a Caine Smith strike and FC Elmstead own-goal.
Smith secured a brace before FC Elmstead responded on the stroke of half-time. A goal fest of a first half was followed by a calmer second period, with central defender Reece Barratt extending the home team’s lead to round-off a brilliant evening.
K Sports Cobdown Chief Executive, Alan Dennington, was thrilled to see the new facility open after years of hard work.
“Friday marked the start of a new era for this site, for K Sports FC and for the local area. To have such a first-class facility in the heart of Kent will help create opportunities for so many people, using sport as a vehicle for productive social change.”
“Friday evening showed a glimpse as to how powerful K Sports Cobdown can be at unifying the local community, bringing people together and I’m really excited to see how we go from strength to strength from this point.”
Alan added, “I’m delighted for K Sports FC. Kris Browning and his team really stepped up to the occasion and everything is going in the right direction both on and off the pitch.”
“It was brilliant for us that the referee complimented our FIFA pro standard surface and I thank CLS, Notts Sports and others who helped us open with such a bang.”
K Sports FC will be back in action at K Sports Cobdown on Saturday 12 November as they welcome visitors Orpington.
