With the weather causing chaos with non league football, K Sports and Fisher FC represented one of the few Sea Pioneer SCEFL Premier Division fixtures that survived.
The arrival of the Fisher team was greeted by a howling wind across the field of Cobdown which was to set the tone for the majority of the match held on the sites 3G pitch.
With a rivalry formed in Fisher’s season in SCEFL1 which saw both sides promoted to the SCEFL Premier the South London side sent a strong side to mid Kent which included returning crowd favourite Rob Brown who completed a move from Punjab United to reunite with AJ Ashanike.
The teams entered the blustery pitch through the supporter entrance and the wind once again showed what would control this fixture as it sent a table flying along with the board showing admission prices.
In an action packed first half it was the visitors who found themselves against the wind and with K Sports firing just over early on The Fish who were on an unbeaten run of 5 matches finally started to take control.
Last week’s hat trick hero Louie Clarke started up front for The Fish and when he beat the high lined offside trap finding himself one on one with the keeper Clarke found his effort to round the keeper saved twice before being smashed home by team mate Malaki Coker to the joy of the wind swept support from south London.
K Sports slowly found their feet and in the 32nd minute a smart turn and shot by Regan Corke squeezed between the post and the despairing dive of ex Tunbridge Wells keeper Tommy Taylor.
Parity restored K Sports attacked again but with the wind changing and the ball cleared by the visitors a break down the left allowed Jacob Katonia to cut inside and drive the ball hard into the net to restore the visitors lead in the 37th minute.
Not to be beaten straight from the restart the ball broke to James Alderman whose well placed shot levelled the scores again within a minute.
With the second half came a change in the weather. Rain, hail, wind and blazing sunshine throughout made conditions even trickier for the players and with the 3G surface glistening it was Fisher who regained the lead after some great work down the left.
Chris Lockwood’s pinpoint cross found Adebola Oluwo who’s towering header gave the home keeper no chance from 6 yards.
The slippery surface meant some difficult conditions for the remainder of the match but K Sports failed to really threaten after going behind and The Fish nearly made the game safe but a shot again from the left whistled just wide.
The win sees the visitors rise to 12th ahead of a return to Maidstone next week to face Bearsted while K Sports occupy 14th, level on points but with a goal difference of -13 against Fisher, ahead of a trip to 15th place Glebe next Saturday.
