Invicta Junior Dynamos travelled to Oxford Sunday 20th October in torrential rain to face the Stars in a critical away game.
The Junior Dynamos needed to maintain their 100% winning record this season against an experienced Oxford outfit. Also Coach Doug Laming would be blooding 2 new players in the team, Jamie Petherick and Cameron Peachey along with starts for new this season players Luke Thirkettle, Jake Taylor and George Turner.
1st period and game on! Invicta got stuck in and began the fight for dominance with the Stars. Stalemate ensued as both teams wrangled but it was Invicta that were getting the upper hand. Line change on a whistle and Invicta’s 2nd line out, hard work and skating produced a nice goal from this line scored by Jake and assisted by Will on 10.51, the breakthrough had come and it was quickly followed by another goal by Jake unassisted on 12.06. Period finished with Invicta ahead 2-0.
2nd period coach Doug Laming started to play the debutants on first line wing with Vojtech and Lucy in this period to get them accustomed to the game. Immediate return from the Junior Dynamos as Vojtech scored a lovely goal off a pass and assist from new boy Cameron Peachey on 15.11 Then James scored maybe the goal of the game as he Will and Jake dominated with speed and passing, Will to Jake who skated wide then fired in a hard pass to James on the back post who one time controlled the puck deep into the back of the net on 20.40 the same combo of players produced another goal on 21.45, James netting cutely from assists of Will and Jake. Vojtech picked up the mantle again after a goal of his was disallowed for no good reason by the ref and Oxford scored unassisted on the restart, he paid them back double with goals on 23.16 and 24.15 both unassisted completing his period hat trick. James scored his hat trick of the period on 28.07 again off a play with his fellow forwards Jake and will but it was given unassisted after a touch by the net minder on 28.07 but the stars scored a calamity (Invicta) goal on 28.57 to keep them alive. Invicta now 8-2 up and damage done!
3rd period Coach Doug sent out the newer guys as forward lines of 3 as well as individually on first line so they saw plenty of ice in this third period. The stars were first to strike and on 30.57 they slipped past our D and slotted one. A well fought period as now Invicta had done the job, ice time was re prioritised. James continued his good form netting on 42.47 unassisted then D man Stewart fired in a nice hard slap shot off an assist from Jake pulling the puck to point in a worked play ending in the back of the net.
2 more points for this unbeaten Invicta team who are on the hunt for the league title.
Special mention to the two lines of Defence, Michael Oliver and Stewart Manser, Alix Deviell and Michael Carlyle holding the team together and working selflessly with great effect.
