Former Kent wicketkeeper Geraint Jones will dust off the gloves once more as he is to play in the Master Cricket League in the UAE.
The 39 year old Ashes winner who still lives near Canterbury, has been signed to play for Capricorn Commanders in the three week tournament that takes place from the end of January to the middle of February.
Jones’ last professional game was back in September when he helped guide Gloucestershire to victory in the Royal London One Day Cup final against Surrey at Lord’s.
A few months on and the former Kent star will be digging his kit back out of the garage as he prepares to head off to the United Arab Emirates in the New Year after being snapped up for $20,000.
Jones will be joined by some familiar faces in the Capricorn Commanders with former England team-mates Michael Vaughan and Paul Collingwood in the sixteen man squad.
There are also two former Kent team-mates in the Commanders squad with Australian Andrew Symonds joined by South African Ryan McLaren for the Twenty 20 tournament.
The MCL2020 will also see the likes of Brian Lara, Jacques Kallis and Graeme Swann grace the international stage once again and Jones is looking forward to getting back to doing what he does best:
“I’m hugely excited to be going to the MCL2020U and playing for the Capricorn Commanders. Time to get my kit out of the garage again and practice.”
The six team tournament has received a ten-year approval from the Emirates Cricket Board and the league is run by former Australia batsman Dean Jones’ company, Major Events Group.
