Kent captain James Tredwell is considering making changes to the side for today’s T20 game against Middlesex at Uxbridge.
Wicketkeeper batsman Geraint Jones has been recalled to the squad after missing the Spitfires first three group games which were all lost with Fabian Cowdrey also named in the 13 man travelling party along with the eleven that played against Essex Eagles on Friday night.
After seeing his side comfortably beaten by the Eagles at Canterbury, Tredwell admitted it was time to consider changes to the team:
“There are certain people we will persist with because we think they are going to do really good things for us, not only this year but in the future.”
“There are areas of our game where we need to be better at. Certainly in the middle of our innings is an area where we need to improve.”
“We’re giving it our all and putting in the work and I believe we will turn it around. We certainly need to turn around the performances and if we don’t get the results that’s by the by.”
“If we can start doing things better than we are at the moment, wins will come.”
Although Jones has been recalled to the squad, Mark Davies continues to be overlooked for the T20 squad and Tredwell told KSN how Kent were keeping him back for the Championship games to come:
“Davo had that bicep injury and although he played the second eleven game against Sussex at Canterbury, he hasn’t bowled a lot of overs and Twenty 20 is a pretty unforgiving game if you aren’t on your game.”
“We know he needs some overs and we’ve got a lot of cricket coming up where we will need some fresh legs.”
Looking back at Friday’s game, Tredwell admitted the side needed to do better after restricting Essex to 164 on a good pitch:
“I think we did pretty well with the ball and Adam Riley and myself did well in the middle overs, but they had a batsman in towards the end who was able to get them a score.”
“Obviously we had a slowish start and they bowled pretty well. We got ourselves into a position where I thought we were in the box seat, so it was disappointing that we didn’t get ourselves into a better position.”
“It’s gutting for people to keep coming and watching us and not winning. We’re not putting in terrible performances, but in Twenty 20 it is easy to lose wickets and end up thirty or forty shy of where you need to be.”
One man to miss out once again is batsman Brendan Nash and Tredwell admitted the side are missing his experience:
“He’s still got a side strain that he picked up in the Sussex YB40 game so he is still out and we are hoping with treatment that he will be back as soon as possible.”
Along with looking at team selection, Tredwell told KSN how he is considering where people bat in the side with Darren Stevens considered for a role higher up the order:
“We need scores from our top four and someone taking the game right through towards the end. Regardless of who bats where we need someone to play one of those long innings.”
“Stevo is someone that could be said to be in form, so we will look at who bats where, but what matters most is that if someone gets in they get a big score and the middle order need to think harder about how they play things.”
Play at Uxbridge starts at 2:30pm on Sunday and KSN will bring you live updates on our Twitter feed – @ksncricket
