Gillingham have announced Alfie Jones as their newest signing under Steve Evans, signing on loan for the season.
Jones, who comes to the club on loan from Southampton, spent last season at St Mirren in the Scotting Premiership, making 14 appearances as the club finished 11th.
The 21 year old centre back signed for Southampton as a youngster and has remained at the club throughout his development.
Speaking to Gillingham’s media team, Steve Evans said ““I’m delighted to confirm that he has put pen to paper. I had a couple of hours with him on Monday when he was making his final choice and he confirmed late last night.”
Jones himself added ““It all happened quite quickly after meeting the manager, once he showed interest it was a no brainer. I want to be part of this journey and hopefully we can go on and do well.”
Jones has scored one senior goal in his career and this came against Livingston in a Scottish Premiership game last season.
The centre back is Evans’ ninth signing of the summer.
The club’s pre season campaign gets underway on Saturday at Faversham Town.
