Ever fancied getting fit whilst having fun? Well, Kent keeper Geraint Jones has found the answer – indoor skiing!
You might think that anyone would be mad for even suggesting that indoor skiing is even possible, but former Olympic mogul and freestyle skier Tim Dudgeon has made it possible with his BODYCarver machine that helps you burn calories, whilst honing your skills before you head off to the piste.
Based in Canterbury, Club Alpine has been running for the past couple of months and is already proving to be a success with the locals, both young and old.
Ten years in the making, there is nothing else that compares to the BODYCarver to give you a full range of cardio and toning benefits, whilst having a laugh at the same time.
Dudgeon’s idea of bringing the ski slopes to Kent has seen a variety of Olympic hopefuls flock to Kent to practice their skills before they head off to the resorts of Europe with Kent wicketkeeper Geraint Jones inviting KSN along to watch him have a go on the innovative system.
Fifteen minutes on the BODYCarver and Jones told KSN how he felt the benefit already and that it could prove to be a huge hit with fellow cricketers:
“The fact that it is no impact and that it’s another form of getting fit is great. My knees get a hammering during the summer and I’m not a big road runner, so I was looking for something that is a bit of fun.”
“Treadmills in the gym are boring, whilst here with the potential of skiing, it is a lot of fun. I will be using it going into next summer, so hopefully it will have a good effect.”
Using his experience of being part of the 1998 Great British Olympics team that competed in Nagano, Japan, Dudgeon has spent the past ten years designing and manufacturing the BODYCarver before bringing it to life in Canterbury and the former Olympian told KSN how he was thrilled with how things were working out:
“The concept behind Club Alpine and the BODYCarver snowboarder and skier is to bring fitness and fun together. People wanting to learn to ski, people wanting to get ready to go skiing and those wanting to improve their general fitness levels will benefit from it.”
“It’s zero impact, easy to use and a lot of fun. It’s interactive too as you can have races against your friends, you can come in with your own ski boots or snowboard, so if you’re looking to improve your winter fitness then I say you should come to Club Alpine.”
