The tenth instalment of the annual Ginetta Junior Winter Series will take place this weekend at Brands Hatch and for Kiern Jewiss it offers the perfect platform to sign off another successful calendar year.
The two-day event at Brands Hatch will run as back-to-back Ginetta Junior race meetings, with one twenty-minute qualifying session and one fifteen and one twenty-minute race per day. The winner of the Winter Series will be the driver who amasses the most points over the weekend’s four races. The winner’s prize includes a half price entry into the 2018 Ginetta Junior Championship or the Ginetta GT5 Challenge.
All eyes will be set on Kiern this weekend as the 2017 Ginetta Junior Rookie Champion returns to the series with his Douglas Motorsport team as the highest-placed returning driver on the grid and has his target set on picking up the winter title.
One outright win, twelve podiums and sixteen rookie wins have set the benchmark high for Kiern’s expectations this weekend but the FM-Conway sponsored driver is remaining calm and collected as he heads to Brands Hatch.
“I’m looking forward to this weekend as it’s the perfect opportunity to show how far I’ve come since the start of the season. I know I head into the weekend as the favourite but that doesn’t change anything in my preparation for the weekend and I am remaining focused heading to Brands. A lot of great drivers have won the Winter Series so for me the task this weekend is to add my name to that illustrious list but to do that we need to take it one session at a time.”
Barry Mears, Head of the MBP Academy, is confident Kiern’s fantastic debut season will help him have a great weekend.
“Kiern heads to Brands as the Rookie Champion and this undoubtedly puts him up there to be shot at this weekend. Kiern’s been working even harder since the season has finished so I believe he’ll be hungrier than ever to get back out on track and fight for race wins. To win the Winter Series you need to be strong from the outset and I’m confident Kiern will deliver an impressive display this weekend.”
The weekend’s action starts of Saturday with qualifying commencing proceedings at 09:00 with two races following. Sunday follows the same format with qualifying starting Sunday’s action at 10:00, followed by two more races.
