Kiern Jewiss heads to the British Championships full of confidence after a successful weekend in Adria.
He was in Italy with new team Forza which saw him once again display fantastic driving skill despite being faced with problems on track.
The weekend got off to a great start as Jewiss qualified P3 which put him in P3 for all the heats. He started strong in every heat, taking the lead within the first lap but found himself slipping back due to lack of grip. It transpired that this was due to a problem with tyres suffered by several teams throughout the weekend.
The tyre issue continued to make it difficult to compete, but Kiern still managed strong results in the heats to start P3 for the pre final. He took the lead early on but after 3 laps of hard defending his rivals were able to slip by leaving the young driver to finish P8.
For the main final Jewiss started P16. Coming across the line for the start, an incident in front of him caused Kiern to change direction in order to avoid contact with another driver, which caused him to drop down to P22. Fighting through the field to regain places, he was a respectable P14 by the chequered flag. Unfortunately, the earlier incident resulted in Kiern incurring a three second penalty, which took his result to P17.
Speaking after the weekend, Jewiss said: “I must start by thanking Jamie at Forza racing and ONE Engines for their support over the weekend. I feel my average result was a lot better throughout the weekend. Although we had the tyre issue (as did many others) I feel if I was on the same tyres as the front runners we would have had a strong enough package to take the win. We used this weekend to gel with the team and understand how they work. We shall now focus on the next round of the Europeans.”
Kiern’s next race will be in the first round of the British Championships this coming weekend at Whilton Mill in the OK Junior class.
The championship is based over three race weekends and the winner will receive a factory drive with Tonykart at the World Championships in Bahrain at the end of the year.
