Midfielder Dominic Jefferies is the latest piece in the Gillingham jigsaw as Neil Harris begins to build his squad for League Two.
The 20-year-old has agreed to join Will Wright and Shaun Williams to MEMS Priestfield Stadium, following a stint with Premier League Brentford.
Jefferies, from Newport in Wales, will join his new teammates for pre-season training when his deal officially starts on June 22nd.
The midfielder began his career with Caerleon before joining Cardiff City, and then Newport County at the age of 14. He made his professional debut for County against West Ham in an EFL Trophy tie at Rodney Parade in September 2019.
He enjoyed a brief spell with Salisbury before making the move permanent in the summer of 2020, he was at the club for a year before making the move to Brentford, having enjoyed a successful trial spell.
Last season, Dominic made 42 appearances for Brentford’s “B” Team, winning their “Player of the Year” trophy in the process (Mary Halder Award). He scored eight goals in total and made seven assists.
On agreeing terms at Priestfield, Dominic said: “I came down last week and looked at the facilities. I met Neil and David and it was a no brainer, I can’t wait for the season now. I’m happy and excited to get going.
“I think I am prepared and ready.”
Manager Neil Harris added: “I’d like to welcome Dom Jefferies to the Football Club, he is an exciting prospect that the fans are really going to enjoy watching develop over a periood of time.
“He comes to us with great pedigree having come through Newport’s first-team level before moving onto Brentford `B.` He’s an energetic box-to-box wholehearted aggressive footballer that we think has got a lot of potential to develop with us, and we look forward to seeing him in a Gills shirt.”
