Netminder Glen Jackson is looking to secure the number one spot at the Invicta Dynamos after making his return to Gillingham.
Jackson first appeared for the Dynamos in 2007/08, after moving to Kent from the Lee Valley Lions, making five outings in Gillingham before later switching to the Romford Raiders and acting as a backup for the then EPL outfit.
In 2009/10 he would perform a similar role for the Swindon Wildcats before returning to the ENIHL South’s top tier and featuring 14 times for the Oxford City Stars.
However, having now appeared for four teams in the space of two seasons, Jackson would finally find his place back with Romford before returning to the Dynamos last week.
Jackson made his first appearance in a Dynamos shirt at the weekend as they beat Solent & Gosport 10-2 and he told KSN how he wants to challenge David Wride for the netminder’s position:
“It’s nice to be back and replacing Andy Moffat I have got big boots to fill. It’s challenge I am going to cherish. I haven’t come here to sit on the bench and I aim to push Wridey for that number one spot.”
“Me and David get on well and we’ve known each other for years and we’ve played against each other. I’m going to enjoy the challenge and I am sure he will as well.”
“It’s been good to get out on the ice and it was my first time this season. I was blowing for a little bit out there, but it’s going to take me a few weeks to settle and find my feet.”
The Dynamos have a big weekend ahead of them with a home game against Milton Keynes Thunder on Saturday evening followed up by a trip to Chelmsford Chieftains on Sunday.
With that in mind, Jackson feels it is vital the side get maximum points to keep their title challenge going:
“We don’t go into this sport to beat teams 15-0, we want to play against the best teams. These are the games the fans want to see and hopefully they get what they want this weekend.”
“This team has got a lot of potential and it’s time we show it. Hopefully we can keep climbing the ladder and more victories will come our way.”
Being back at the Silver Blades Ice Bowl in Gillingham and playing in front of the fans from Kent Iis something most players say they come back to Medway for and Jackson is no exception:
“I love playing here, I always have. I even thought that when I was at Romford. They are the best fans in the league. You hear them whether you win or lose and they are always on your side.”
“The boys appreciate it and it’s like having a sixth man on the ice. Hopefully we will give them something to celebrate come the end of the season.”
Face off on Saturday is 5:15pm with tickets available from www.invictadynamos.com
