Johnnie Jackson was a guest on talkSPORT on Thursday evening and gave his usual, eloquent views on a variety of topics.
Daily Telegraph journalist, Jim White, put Jackson on the spot regarding the FA Cup. White made Jackson the hypothetical offer of a guaranteed FA Cup Final win but the cost would be relegation to League One.
Charlton’s skipper unhesitatingly accepted the offer and pointed out that a relegated side can win promotion the next season but FA Cup wins are rare events.
Jackson pointed out that if Wigan get promoted this season and remain in the Premier League for several years, their relegation season would be forgotten but their Cup win would forever be etched on the memory of their fans.
Jackson is entering the latter years of his career and this season will probably be the best chance he has of playing at Wembley in an FA Cup semi-final, and potentially final as well.
Chris Powell joined Richard Murray and Roland Duchatelet for the Thursday afternoon press conference.
There was nothing startling revealed in what was a fairly lacklustre affair. The meeting Powell and his assistant, Alex Dyer, were due to hold with Bromley Addicks on Thursday evening was postponed at short notice.
Officially, it was called off through ‘unforeseen circumstances’, though it is believed that it was considered inadvisable for the manager to face questions from supporters while he is involved in contract negotiations.
Powell was specifically asked about Shaun Wright-Phillips at the press conference. The manager would clearly like to add the diminutive winger to his squad but he said that a deal was not imminent.
