Ashley Jackson was in high demand at the weekend as the bidding for the Hockey India League took place.
The 25 year old from West Malling was one of over 240 of the World’s best players that were up for grabs and teams fought for his services for the four week tournament.
The East Grinstead midfielder was playing with his club side in the Maxifuel Super Sixes Championships whilst the auction was taking place, but there was a small pause in their day as his pricetag was announced.
Jackson said, “I am very happy with the outcome, I couldn’t watch it live as I was in a team meeting with East Grinstead, but Matt Jones was mouthing the price silently and when it hit $40,000 we had to stop the meeting and pay a bit more attention.”
Jackson was finally bought for $73,000, making him the second highest earner in his team, The Ranchi Rhinos. Only the newly crowned FIH World Player of the Year Moritz Fuertse made more as he went for $83,950.
The Kent hockey star added, “I am delighted to be playing for the Ranchi Rhinos under Gregg Clark, also excited to play alongside a decorated Mo Fürste”
The HIL will be aired on ESPN Star from January 16th 2013 to February 10th 2013.
