Popular skipper, Johnnie Jackson, penned a 12 month extension to his contract on Friday afternoon. The deal will keep him at The Valley until the summer of 2017.
Jackson arrived from Notts County – initially on loan – in the second half of the 2009/10 season. He signed a permanent deal with the Addicks in the summer of 2010.
It was Phil Parkinson who brought Jackson to the club. Parkinson had previously made the Camden born midfielder his first signing, when he began his managerial career at Colchester.
A delighted Jackson had this to say to the club’s website after penning the deal:
“Brilliant, I couldn’t wait to get it signed and from the moment I got here, I’ve always said that this seemed like the place for me.
“As soon as I got here I felt at home. I was back in London (from Notts County), settled and from the first moment the fans took to me on the pitch.
“That has allowed me to flourish and I’ve played the best football of my career here. I’ve played more games for Charlton than I have anyone else. If you asked anyone about me, they’d think Charlton.
“It’s been a great fit from the first minute and long may it continue.
“I love the rapport that I’ve got with them (the fans). It’s grown and grown. Social media and things like that have enabled me to interact with them.
“It gives you a voice and allows you to speak to them. I’ve made some friends along the way with supporters and on the pitch the fans have always backed me vocally. I’m really grateful for that,” said the skipper.
CEO, Katrien Meire, added, “We are delighted that Johnnie has agreed to extend his contract. As well as continuing to lead by example on the pitch, he is a fantastic ambassador for the club off of it.
“I am very pleased that Johnnie has committed himself to another season at the club.”
Jackson has made more than 200 appearances for Charlton, and his winner at St Andrews last week was his 50th goal for the club.
His immediate concern will be the Ipswich game on Saturday. He will be hoping to lead his team to a third successive win.
