Jackson delighted to be challenging for wins

Tom Jackson is enjoying an excellent start to the Duo BRDC F4 Championship and he is targeting further success as the season goes on.Round 2 of the 2015 British GT Championship.

Jackson has so far a best place finish of second, but has been challenging podiums for race one and that is giving him the confidence that he made the right choice to race in the series for a second season.

Speaking to Kent Sports News, Tom said: “The results so far have justified that it was a good decision to comeback, obviously fighting at the front I really feel that I have a really good chance of going on and winning this championship.

“In what is one of the best junior single seater series in the UK, to have a chance of winning it is a great achievement and great for my psychology that I can win this thing.”

It is a testament to Jackson and his character that he has shown a lot of improvement so far this season as has his team Chris Dittmann Racing as they work well together.Round 2 of the 2015 British GT Championship.

He added: “You can’t say that is all just down to me, a part of it goes to the team as well as obviously they have had another year of experience in the championship. They have had time to learn the car for another year and with me I stayed with them for the majority of last year.

“We have been able to work together to develop the car, before they have never really had someone who can work with them throughout the whole year they have had people coming in and out.

“It is a bit down to the team and like you said in myself I have improved and I am trying to do as much as I can. I study videos and talk to my driver coach and engineer to work out how the car works and my driver coach teaches me how to improve on the circuit. I think everything is accumulating and working together to give me a great performance.”Round 2 of the 2015 British GT Championship.

There have been two rounds of the 2015 season to date and the best result for Tom has been a second place finish in the rain, coming through from the back of the grid.

“One more lap and I think I easily would have had the win, I caught him by a second and a half on the last lap and set the fastest lap in the process. Coming from 16th to second what a great achievement, initially I wanted to get into the top ten and score some solid points.

“To come all the way through the field and be eighth after the first corner I was like oh god, I have done so well so far let’s just keep cracking on. The safety car did help a bit as it obviously brought me back into contention and a bit closer to people. It was great as I just kept making moves and it worked out quite well.”

Tom’s development in the championship is show by the fact that this season he has been challenging for podiums in all races.Round 2 of the 2015 British GT Championship.

Tom added: “This is a big thing for me I am fighting for podiums in every race and if I am not there we need to look at why I am not there. We should be on the podium every single race, even on the reverse races there is no reason we can’t drive back through and over take the slower cars, especially as my racing craft has improved.

“I am not aiming for podiums now I am aiming for wins, that is my number one goal to achieve and I am sure I can do that in the coming races.”

Next up this weekend for Tom is a trip to Silverstone and a track that he enjoys racing on and is targeting a good result.

He said: “Silverstone is a great track, out of all the tracks that we go and race on Silverstone and Oulton Park are my favourites, I am really looking forward to it.Tom Jackson - PSP Images

“Last year in my first ever F4 race I qualified sixth after just turning up on the Friday and I am going to turn up on Friday just like I did last year. Hopefully I can improve on sixth as last year was my first qualifying, so to be sixth in my first ever quali was a great achievement. Obviously I want to be aiming for my first ever pole at Silverstone.

“All drivers want incentives, whether it is off on or on track whether it is attracting sponsors or what we are trying to work out is an incentive on track that reflects off track. Whatever I get on track, hopefully it will attract some sponsors off track, but as a driver myself and my mental approach to it, I want to be the best out there. I am there to beat everyone and my aim is not going to be complete until I win every single race.

“I think that is the same for every driver and most are determined to make that happen, I am doing everything that I can away from the track to try and nail sponsors and make that happen.”
