Tom Jackson is returning for a second season in the BRDC Formula Four championship and he is targeting wins.
Jackson will return to race with Chris Dittman Racing a team that he knows so well and hopes can propel him towards his aim of challenging for the championship.
Speaking exclusively to Kent Sports News, Tom said: “Absolutely ecstatic, I can’t wait to be sitting on that grid again just waiting for the lights to go out! It’s been six/seven months since I last raced and sitting here counting down the days so that I can just go out there and prove to everyone what I can do in the car! To go out there and be the best and tally up those wins.
“I’m more determined than ever, training five/six times a week to try and get my weight down all to make me and the car quicker. The car feels great, with part of a season under my belt, I’m fully charging into this season with the aims of podiums and wins which I fully believe is a realistic goal with the outcome of finishing in the top three of the championship.”
Having raced for CDR during the 2014 season Tom know the team and the team knows Tom and that he believes can help him this season.
He added: “When I drove their car for the media day at Brands Hatch during the week, we were laughing about that, it was like a big family reunion. They’re a great bunch of guys, very hard working and fully dedicated to getting me and the team’s first win.
“We also both know how the other person works, there was one thing that they had pointed out to me at the end of the season, and over the winter I’ve been working very hard to change this. As it is now, I am ready for this, physically, mentally and motivated to succeed and I’m not going to let anything stop me. I want them to tell me what I’m doing wrong, because I need to take it on board and use it to progress as a racing driver.”
It is clear that Tom is more determined than ever to succeed and that combined with his enthusiasm to succeed will hopefully see a successful season in F4 for Tom who is excited to get underway.
“Excited is an understatement, being out of the seat and watching others race hurts. So to be back in the seat and when I drove it the other day, the feeling just feels so much better knowing how much effort and time has gone into this to make this happen for me.
“I feel it’s much more rewarding when you’ve worked harder to get the sponsors on board instead of other drivers who just have everything handed to them. I also think I am much more thankful and respectful for the great opportunity that I’ve been given and just can’t wait to go out there and give back for what I’ve been given.”
Tom is under no illusions that the competition is going to be tough but he is up for the challenge and determined to show that he can compete.
He said: “It’s going to be competitive, with drivers coming from all over the world, it’s really got to say something about the championship and the level it’s at – even just as an entry level formula. I know that in the back of my mind, but the main thing in my mind is that I know I’m quick and I’ll be one of the quickest out there, so I’m going to go out there and give everything I’ve got and if others might beat me then fair play, but I’ll work even harder off and away from track so that next time I’m back I won’t let that happen again.
Tom has a few people wants to thank for ensuring that he is back on the grid in 2015 and competitive.
He added: “A massive thank you to all my family, my mum almost being my dietician and giving me healthy pack ups trackside and my dad being there to get sponsors onboard and also being an ex racer always giving me any extra info he can possibly give and just giving me all he can to try and get me out on track.
“Massive thanks to my current sponsors; Metamark, Advance FM, Dendy Neville, Bulldog Drummond and Indi Seat Schroth racing – for getting me to the grid.”
