Island Run back for more
Island Run back for more

The Island Run returns on Sunday 6th May, with this year’s event having a new twist to its formula.

For the first time ever runners will be able to choose a 10k or 5k along the seafront from Sheerness to Minster and back, but the popular 2 mile fun run from previous years will also remain.

The Rotary Club of Minster are working together with the Kent Sports Trust again alongside Sporting Events UK, a Kent based events company who are bringing their running knowledge and fine touches to the event.

The 2 mile fun run has always been a popular part of the annual event, with all sorts of different people getting themselves sponsored and raising money for local causes.

Tony Potter, from the Rotary Club of Minster on Sea comments, “This is a great opportunity for runners of all ages and abilities to come together for fun or to challenge themselves to set a new course record.”

“In the past the event has raised over £100,000 for the Paul Trigwell Memorial Fund and other local charitable causes and we are hoping everyone will get behind the event again this year! ”

The 10k and 5k option along the seafront, which is being managed by Sporting Events UK, looks set to be a favourite amongst runners from the island and beyond.

Barry Hopkins, from Sporting Events UK, comments, “We are delighted to be working with the Rotary Club and the Kent Sports Trust on this part of such a historic event.”

“The run has existed for over 40 years in various formats and in order to put it on a firm footing for the future we have introduced these two popular running distances to the event.”

“We are hoping that lots of local people will give this a go and that runners from across the county will come and try it too.”

“The seafront is an often undiscovered and hidden gem of the Kent coastline and we’ve been working hard to let everyone know about it.”

A special bespoke medal has been commissioned for the event featuring the iconic clock tower from Sheerness.

Runners and local people can support the event and find out more on the website at www.ptir.org.uk or can enter the 5k or 10k run at www.sportingeventsuk.com
