Gillingham will be hoping to stop a rut that has seen them lose three games in a row when they travel to Ipswich Town this evening.
After laying fourth in League One after five games, Steve Evans’ side have suffered a sudden downturn in form that has seen them lose 2-0 three times in a row against MK Dons, Portsmouth and Fleetwood Town.
Things don’t get any easier for the Blues, and they will travel to Portman Road on Tuesday to take on an Ipswich side that are competing at the top end of the table.
Evans is expected to have a depleted squad to chose from for the game, with Kyle Dempsey, Jacob Mellis, Tom O’Connor and Vadaine Oliver all missing though injury. Star defender Connor Ogilvie was sent off against Fleetwood, so he too will miss the game as he serves his one-game ban.
That will leave Evans with just 17 players to choose from, so he will not be able to fill his bench, but the Scot will still be hoping of a positive result to rejuvenate his side after a dire run of form.
Ipswich may be fourth in League One, but they go into the game after back-to-back defeats – 4-1 against Doncaster Rovers and 1-0 against Lincoln City – so boss Paul Lambert will be hoping they can bounce back on Tuesday to get their promotion efforts back on track.
The teams have already met this season, in the EFL Trophy, and Ipswich won the game 2-0 thanks to strikes from Armando Dobra and Ben Folami. Last year’s equivalent was drawn 0-0 on Boxing Day.
Fans of course will not be able to attend the game in person, but an iFollow pass can be purchased for £10 to stream the game live via either club’s website.
Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 BST.
