American central defender, Oguchi Onyewu, penned a deal on Monday that will keep him at The Valley until the end of the season.

Ipswich

Onyewu will plug the gap that will be left by Michael Morrison’s departure to Birmingham.

Neil Etheridge is another who is expected to sign a new contract in the next few days. Both players will be involved in Tuesday’s match at Portman Road against Ipswich.

The Tractor Boys will be the first team Charlton have played twice, as the season enters its second half.

Etheridge did all that was asked of him against Cardiff and is set to continue between the sticks.

Bob Peeters will again rely on central defensive rocks, Tal Ben Haim and Andre Bikey, at the heart of his defence, though he will have to give some thought to the full-back berths.

Chris Solly does not normally feature in midweek games but may well play in this game and be rested on Saturday, when Blackburn visit The Valley for an FA Cup match.

Solly could be utilised on the right or left, as could Joe Gomez. Lawrie Wilson, Morgan Fox and Onyewu are other full-back options.

Friday’s star man, Johann Gudmundsson, will be on the right and could be joined by the usual trio of Yoni Buyens, Johnnie Jackson and Jordan Cousins in midfield.

George Tucudean had a good game on Friday and is likely to retain his place. Igor Vetokele was confined to the bench against Cardiff, following a bout of illness in the days leading up to the match.

The Angolan striker is likely to return to the staring line-up in place of the suspended Callum Harriott. Vetokele showed his best form when he started alongside Tucudean and will be interesting to see if he can regain his scoring touch if he is paired with the Romanian.

The Addicks could look like this:

Etheridge; Solly, Ben Haim, Bikey, Onyewu; Gudmundsson, Buyens, Jackson, Cousins; Tucudean, Vetokele.

Subs: Pope, Gomez, Fox, Wilson, Bulot, Pigott, Ahearne-Grant.

Chris Kavanagh from Manchester will be the referee.

This is as tough a test as Peeters’ team could have, Ipswich are in good form and are the only team in the Championship to have lost fewer games than Charlton.

Any kind of result will be viewed as a bonus.
