Gillingham almost took Ipswich Town striker Ronan Murray on loan only for the move to fall through.
On Wednesday, the 20-year-old bagged a brace against the Gills for Ipswich’s reserves in an 8-1 victory.
Murray has made 13 appearances for the Tractor Boys whilst spending the end of last season on loan at Torquay United.
According to Ipswich manager, Paul Jewell, wanted to go out and get first-team experience, but the deal fell through.
Jewell said: “Ronan was on his way to Gillingham on loan but, for whatever reason, that didn’t happen, which was disappointing from our point of view and from Ronan’s as he is desperate to go out on loan somewhere.
“He is one who needs to be playing games as he’s a young kid and is desperate to prove himself. He isn’t one to just accept that he’s not in the first-team and be happy just training.
“He wants to go somewhere on loan and prove that he can be part of a first team.”
Gillingham appear to have been looking at Murray, but instead have brought in West Ham United striker Frank Nouble instead.
The 19 year old is set to partner Danny Kedwell in attack as the Gills go in search of their first win in five games when they play Hereford United on Saturday.
