The Invicta Dynamos were comfortable winners on Sunday night, beating the London Raiders 7-0 in the South East Trophy.
Kevin Parrish’s side went into the “dead rubber” having beaten Cardiff NIHL Devils 6-2 the night before and keen to carry on their recent good form.
With Chelmsford Chieftains already having sealed the Trophy, both sides went into the game looking to give their players valuable ice time and it was two of them that haven’t had much in recent weeks that combined to open the scoring in the sixth minute.
Back from injury, Bailey Wootton squared for Jack Lee in the sixth minute and the latter made no mistake tipping home past Ryan Bainborough.
With 31 seconds left on the clock in the first period, the Dynamos stretched their advantage to 2-0 with Callum Fowler coming from behind the net to set up Eriks Ozollapa.
The Dynamos were once again the more likely to score in the second period, but it took until the 40th minute to make it 3-0 when Ondrej Zosiak’s strike from the blue line was diverted home by Conor Redmond.
There was a brief delay to the start of the third period, with Bainborough unable to continue in the Raiders net, and without a back up netminder, Tom Davis had to don the pads and go into goal.
Knowing he was going to take a barrage of shots in the final twenty minutes, Davis pulled off a string of saves and was thankful the frame of the goal came to his aid on more than one occasion.
Davis was finally beaten in the 49th minute as Ozollapa and Fowler exchanged passes before the latter clipped the puck home.
With both sides a man down, Arran Strawson made it 5-0 moments later, firing home from range, leaving Davis grasping thin air.
As the game was dead and buried, Parrish elected to pull netminder Damien King for the final ten minutes, allowing Glen Rodbourne to get a run out.
He was rarely tested, but pulled off a few decent saves and at the other end, it was 6-0 in the 54th minute as Brad Gutridge squared to Adam McNicoll to fire home.
Just over a minute later and it was 7-0 as Elliott Dewey’s strike from range came back the way of Jacob Ranson and his athletic spin and shot left Davis beaten.
The final few minutes saw the Dynamos rest their star players, giving everyone valuable ice time, and one of those that doesn’t always get the credit, Damien Welch, was rightly given the man of the match after the game.
The Dynamos now face a NIHL Southern Cup semi-final double header next weekend against Streatham Redskins and we caught up with Kevin Parrish after the Raiders game:
