Dreams of winning the league appear to be over for another year for the Invicta Dynamos after they drew 6-6 on Saturday night.Juraj Huska4

Going into the game against the Streatham Redskins at Gillingham, Head Coach Kevin Parrish had stated his desire to pick up two wins over the weekend, but it wasn’t to be against the side that had knocked them out of the NIHL Southern Cup only a few weekends ago.

It had all been going so well for the Dynamos too as they had led 6-3 at one stage, but the visitors showed plenty of fight to secure the league point.

With captain Anthony Leone starting the first of his three game suspension, both Chris Douglas and Shaun Yardley still sidelined by injury and Peter Beerling not icing, the Dynamos went into the game needing a good start.

That’s exactly what they got as well with Andy Smith starting off the scoring in the seventh minute as he rounded off a great move involving Juraj Huska and Shaun Wild.

The Dynamos were to double their lead with three minutes of the first period remaining as Marek Nahlik fired home.

Joe Allen was to peg the score back to 2-1 just three minutes into the second period, but the Dynamos showed their class with Huska scoring two minutes later to restore the two goal lead.

A lively end to the period saw Huska grab a second of the night to make it 4-1 and despite the Dynamos conceding once again , they were to go into the final twenty minutes leading 5-2 after a fine solo goal from Arran Strawson.

It seemed as though the two points were in the bag when Huska secured his hat-trick in the 46th minute to make it 6-2, but that’s where the wheels started to come off for the Dynamos.

After throwing away a 9-4 lead against Streatham a few weeks before, doubt and indecision crept back in and the visitors were to make it 6-3 when Sean Scarborough scored in the 50th minute.

The American import pegged it back to 6-4 just into the 55th minute and when Allen grabbed his second of the night just a minute later, the score was back to 6-5 and the momentum was with the visitors.

The inevitable happended in the final minute of the game when Michal Oravec tucked the puck home to the delight of the visiting support and the despair of the Dynamos faithful.

With Chelmsford Chieftains having won 6-3 at Cardiff NIHL Devils on Saturday night, their lead at the top of the table has been extended to five points and they could wrap up the title at home to the Dynamos on Sunday evening.

From here, the Dynamos will have to hope they can at the very least secure second in the league and go into the play-offs with some renewed optimism.
