The Invicta Dynamos pulled off the most remarkable comeback to draw their opening NIHL Southern Cup fixture of the season.
Going into the game on Sunday night, the Dynamos were without the services of import Juraj Huska who was suspended, the injured Nicky Lewis and the recently departed Tyrone Miller.
Facing last season’s league and cup winners Chelmsford Chieftains looked to be one of the toughest opening games of the season and it certainly proved to be that on Sunday night.
Within the space of just ten minutes of the opening period, the Dynamos found themselves 4-0 down at rocking at the electric start made by the Essex side.
With the choice of folding and giving up or standing up and fighting their way back into the game, the Dynamos decided the latter and pulled back two goals by the end of the period.
New signing Alan Lack and Callum Fowler ensured the Dynamos went in at the break just two goals adrift and that sparked the most almighty fightback.
Just a minute into the second period and the Dynamos were 5-2 down, but they showed all the character they are going to need this season as they scored three unanswered goals by the end of the period.
Daniel Hammond, Jakub Klima and Fowler once again all got themselves on the scoresheet as the Dynamos went into the final twenty minutes at 5-5.
With the large crowd inside the Silver Blades Ice Bowl in Gillingham now believing they could pull off the most incredible comeback, the Dynamos took the lead five minutes into the final period with Elliot Knell firing high past the Chelmsford netminder.
After a decent scrap that saw Ryan Giles sent from the ice for roughing, the Chieftains pulled themselves level with just four minutes to play ensuring both sides went away with the points shared.
The Dynamos will be back in action again next Sunday night as they face the London Raiders at home for the first of their NIHL South Division one fixtures with face off at 5:15pm.
