Invicta Dynamos 6-4 MK Thunder

The Invicta Dynamos reached their second final in a matter of weeks after defeating a defiant MK Thunder team in the semi-final of the play-offs.

Dynamos v MK game

The Dynamos welcomed back Brad Gutridge but missed reliable D-man Arran Strawson through injury. Juraj Huska gave the Dynamos the perfect start after only 52 seconds when he fired past Damien King when Andy Smith fed the deadly Slovakian with a killer pass.

Juraj Huska doubled his goal tally on 3:31 when he combined with Callum Fowler and Andy Smith, tapping into an empty net when Damien King was wrong footed. Just when the Dynamos might have thought a four goal aggregate lead was good enough, Mk import Piotr Poziomkowski pulled a goal back on 11:22 with a shot that Mark McGill had little chance in keeping out.

Playing in his 300th Invicta game, Anthony Leone marked the milestone in style by putting Invicta 3-1 ahead on the night with a close range goal on 18:23 with Andy Smith claiming his third assist of the night and Huska his third point.

Ex-EPL forward Jamie Line was a constant threat throughout the weekend and his skill showed on 31:32 when he cleverly read a Piotr Poziomkowski through pass and raced through to beat Mark McGill to adjust the score line to 3-2. It only took sixteen seconds for the Dynamos to extend their lead when Callum Fowler scored on 31:46 with Andy Smith picking-up assist number 4.

It was Fowler on the double at 34:38 as he combined with fiver assist-man Smith again to stretch the lead on the night to 5-2 and 8-3 on aggregate. Just when the Dynamos thought they would see some comfort in a five goal lead, they slipped to an unassisted run by Nidal Phillips which led to the puck sliding under a surprised Mark McGill on 37:37 to make it 5-3.

Penalties to Callum Fowler and Billy Phillips meant the Dynamos had to defend a 5-on-3 for almost a minute and a half in between the end of the 2nd and start of the 3rd period which they done successfully. Reward for the defiance came on 48:26 when Adam McNicoll hit a deflected shot past the helpless Damien King to register the sixth Mo’s goal.

Thomas Castle pulled another goal back for MK Thunder on 51:31 but it would be the Dynamos fans who were standing to applause the home side to a 9-5 aggregate victory.

Andy Smith picked-up the man of the match award for his five assists.
