The Invicta Dynamos maintained their fine run of late with a 4-2 victory over Milton Keynes Thunder on Saturday night.

Dynamos v MK4

Kevin Parrish’s side went into the game having lost just once in their last nine outings, but were without the services of injured duo Bailey Wootton and Adam McNicoll, whilst both Conor Redmond and Grant Baxter were unavailable.

Despite their absence, the Dynamos took to the ice with more numbers than the visitors who came to Gillingham looking to cause an upset with the Kent team having won just 6-5 only a few weeks before.

It was a frenetic start to the game with the Dynamos keen to impress in front of their own fans and it only took to the ninth minute of the game and the scorer was from an unlikely source.

Haydn Wootton broke down the ice, got behind the goal and forced the puck back into the path of Jack Lee who made no mistake claiming his first goal in a Dynamos shirt.

The visiting Thunder side weren’t to be denied though and came roaring back into the game in the 17th minute with Jamie Line beating former team-mate Damien King from close range.

With Andy Henderson sitting out for two minutes having been harshly penalised for tripping, the Dynamos clawed their way back in front when they countered down the ice with Jacob Ranson setting up Steve Osman who found himself in the right place, at the right time.

The second period proved to be a largely forgettable twenty minutes that won’t live long in the memory and neither side managed to add to the scoreline.

At 2-1 going into the final period, the Dynamos knew they really needed to be the next team to score and they did in the 44th minute making full use of a powerplay with Andy Henderson firing home from just inside the blue line.

Any hope of the home fans being able to sit back and relax went out of the window in the 57th minute when Line added another, again from close range leaving Kig with no chance.

The final minute proved to be critical with both sides calling a time out, the visiting side first as they decided their tactics.

Finally, with just over thirty seconds left on the clock, Thunder netminder Koitmaa was pulled and it proved to be a crucial decision.

With the puck deep in the Dynamos third, it fell kindly to Osman and without looking up, he slammed it down the ice, trickling steadily into the unguarded net to the delight of the home support.

So, it was a 4-2 win for the Dynamos who stay fourth in the NIHL South, ten points behind league leaders Chelmsford Chieftains, but with three games in hand.

The two teams meet in Essex on Sunday night in what could be one of the most crucial games of the season.
