Invicta Dynamos 4-1 London Raiders

The Invicta Dynamos ended 2016 in style and made it seven league wins on the trot with victory over London Raiders.

Kevin Parrish’s side went into the game on the back of Saturday night’s 6-5 victory at Bracknell Hornets, but were once again without the services of both Adam McNicoll and Jarvis Mewett.

However, the absence of the duo caused no real concern to a Dynamos side that had a numercial advantage against their local rivals who were missing the likes of Marek Nahlik and Jacob Ranson.

After a fast, frenetic and often physical opening few minutes of the game, the Dynamos opened the scoring in the seventh minute as Ashley Jackson turned home the puck after Euan King failed to hold an Elliott Dewey shot.

In the twelfth minute it looked like Callum Fowler was going to double the home side’s advantage as he raced down the ice, but he was felled by JJ Pitchley who conceded a penalty shot and got a 5+game for his troubles. Unfortunately, Nicky Lewis was unable to beat King from the resulting penalty shot.

The Dynamos continued to dominate in the opening period and almost doubled their lead when Ondrej Zosiak hit the frame of the goal before Jackson grabbed his second of the night in the 17th minute. As he’s done so many times before this season, the Team GB hockey player linked up well with Adam Rehak before forcing home from close range on a powerplay.

Callum Fowler was to return to the ice in the second period, but it proved in vain as the ever busy forward was ultimately forced out of the game for the earlier incident involving Pitchley.

That second period proved to be feisty as the visitors upped their physicality, but it looked to be in vain.

There was still time though for the Raiders to claw their way back into the game and it was 2-1 going into the final period with Tom Davis making the most of a powerplay to slot past John Dibble in the Dynamos goal with little over a minute to play.

With the game very much in the balance going into the final twenty minutes, Zosiak showed his class in the 44th minute, taking the puck from his own defensive zone, evading tackle after tackle before clipping past King from close range.

Just three minutes later and it was 4-1 as Mason Webster scored against his former side, making the most of a great move involving the hard working Steve Osman.

Exactly a minute later and there was a real flashpoint as Brandon Miles and Harrison Lillis traded blows. The Raiders man had the advantage having landed shots before his opponent was ready.

The remainder of the game saw Dibble pull off some decent saves, whilst both Rehak and Nicky Lewis picked up misconducts, but it mattered not for a Dynamos side that eased to their seventh straight win.

In what was a four point weekend, the Dynamos go into the Christmas break sitting second in the NIHL South, five points behind league leaders Chelmsford Chieftains who have a game in hand.

The two teams meet twice on the opening weekend of 2017 in what could be a season defining couple of games of ice hockey.
