The Invicta Dynamos got their league season off to a winning start with a narrow win over the London Raiders on Sunday night.
In what was their first league encounter against the newly named side, formerly known as the Romford Raiders, it was Kevin Parrish’s Dynamos side that came out on top at the Silver Blades Ice Bowl in Gillingham.
The Dynamos took to the ice with import Juraj Huska having served his ban, just in time to face his former side, with Ryan Giles also lining up against his old team-mates.
Without the injured Nicky Lewis, but with the returning Peter Beerling on the ice, the Dynamos raced into a two goal lead in the opening ten minutes.
Arran Strawson was to open the scoring in just the second minute with skipper Anthony Leone doubling the Dynamos advantage shortly after the ten minute mark.
The Raiders weren’t to be put to bed though with JJ Pitchley left one on one with netminder Chris Douglas a minute later to make it 2-1.
However, the Dynamos were to be two goals to the good again in the 15th minute when Elliot Knell fired home.
If there wasn’t enough drama on the ice, the whole stadium had to be evacuated at the end of the first period with the fire alarms sounding.
That seemed to disrupt the flow of the game as the second period turned into a physical battle, with neither side able to find the goal.
Like the second, the third period was a tight and nervy affair with both sides struggling to find their rhythm. The Raiders were to pull another goal back in the 52nd minute through Charlie Phillips, but it wasn’t enough and the Dynamos held on for their first two points of the season.
They will now face each other again on Saturday night with the Dynamos travelling to face the Raiders, before returning to Gillingham on Sunday night to take on Solent & Gosport with face off at 5:15pm.
