The Invicta Dynamos go into Sunday night’s play-off Quarter Final with a small advantage after beating MK Thunder 3-1 on Saturday evening.
Having put the disappointment of losing the Cup Final to Chelmsford Chieftains last weekend behind them, the Dynamos took to the ice with a strong roster, but then so did the visitors to Gillingham.
In a largely forgettable first half an hour, there lacked incident or intensity in front of a sparse Saturday night crowd.
Netminders Damien King and David Wride were rarely troubled in the opening exchanges and it took until the 33rd minute for the game to finally come alive.
With Nicky Lewis sitting for a two minute slashing penalty, the Dynamos broke up the ice, Ondrej Zosiak finding Callum Fowler and his square pass was picked up by Scott Bailey to score shorthanded.
The lead was to last just two minutes though as Jakub Klima picked out Hallden Barnes-Garner to beat a stranded King.
Thankfully, the bane of Dynamos in recent weeks, the second period, actually proved to be fruitful for once and they nudged themselves back in front in the 39th minute as Fowler once again turned provider for Bailey to grab his second of the night.
The third goal for the Dynamos came in the 48th minute as Osman bundled home past Wride after Zosiak picked him out with an inch perfect pass.
Both sides poured forward in the remaining minutes to try and gain an advantage going into Sunday’s 2nd leg, but the score was to remain at 3-1 and the tie remains on a knife edge going into the game at Milton Keynes.
