A below par performance from the Invicta Dynamos saw the Kent side lose 6-2 to MK Thunder and miss the chance to regain top spot in the league.

Dynamos v MK TH

With Chelmsford Chieftains surprisingly losing 2-1 to Streatham Redskins, the Dynamos will kick themselves for missing a massive opportunity to keep pace with their rivals.

They went into this game without the services of the Phillips brothers who left the club earlier in the week, whilst both Grant Baxter and Steve Nightingale weren’t icing.

However, Peter Beerling was back in a Dynamos shirt with Mark McGill given the back up netminder duties with Mark Lee given the nod from the start.

With a sense of anticipation and keen to put last Sunday’s defeat to Chelmsford behind them, the Dynamos made a bright start, but soon found themselves trailing with Adam McNicoll serving a ten minute misconduct for wearing his visor too high.

Thunder took the lead in the eighth minute with Lee coughing a Tom Castle shot straight back to the Milton Keynes man and he made no mistake at the second attempt.

Less than ninety seconds later and it was 2-0 with Milton Keynes a man down for having too many men on the ice, but it mattered not as they raced clear and Jamie Line did the honours.

The Dynamos responded in quick fashion less than a minute later with Callum Fowler making the most of the powerplay to pull it back to 2-1.

With the game back in the balance, once again the Dynamos were made to pay for some slack defending on 14 minutes as Tom Mboya slotted past Lee.

That was the way it was to stay to the end of the first period and all of the way through the second as both teams traded chances with MK netminder Damien King pulling off some fine saves to keep his side in front.

Going into the last the home fans were expecting a massive response from their side, but it never came and in the end it was the visitors that went through the gears.

A disallowed goal seemed to inspire the visitors and with captain Jamie Line serving a ten minute misconduct penalty for disputing the decision, they made full advantage of a powerplay in the 48th minute with Jamie Randall making it 4-1.

With the game already seemingly gone, Dynamos changed netminders with Mark McGill handed his debut and within two minutes he had conceded twice as his defence left him high and dry.

Castle bagged his second of the night and within a minute Alex Whyte got himself on the scoresheet to make it 6-1 going into the final ten minutes.

The game finally came to life in the 54th minute as Callum Fowler and Martyn Snape traded punches and it took until the last minute for the Dynamos to get their second with Juraj Huska firing home.

It was to stay 6-2 and for once the scoreline accurately reflects the game. On this showing, the Dynamos will need to change their attitude quickly if they don’t want their season to peter out.

They head to the Solent Devils on Sunday night knowing nothing less than a win will do.
