The Invicta Dynamos made it a three point weekend with a 2-2 draw at home to Oxford City Stars on Sunday night.
Kevin Parrish’s side went into the game in Gillingham on the back of Saturday evening’s 3-1 win at London Raiders, but without the suspended Eriks Ozollapa, whilst captain Nicky Lewis joined injured pair Bailey Wootton and Adam McNicoll.
With such a short and inexperienced roster, Parrish opted to change his lines, allowing Scotsman Andy Henderson to play a more offensive role.
It was the Dynamos that opened the scoring in the seventh minute and it was Henderson that took the plaudits as he fired home an expertly worked move involving Steve Osman and Ondrej Zosiak.
The second goal proved to be elusive though with the Dynamos having rely on Damien King more than once to keep them from conceding as the two teams played out the rest of the period without troubling the scorers.
That second period proved to be a little more feisty and that suited the Stars more and it came as no real surprise when they got back on terms in the 29th minute with Darren Elliott sending the puck past King after initially denying Josh Oliver.
Just over sixty seconds later and the Dynamos were behind. Oliver’s long pass up the ice picked out Ondrej Pekarik and he was clear of the home defence, making no mistake in front of goal.
The final period saw the Dynamos up their game after failing to inspire for the remainder of the second, with the home side knocking on the door, time and time again.
They finally got back level on 45 minutes when Zosiak picked up the puck in his own third, raced down the ice before unleashing a fierce shot that whistled past Tom Annetts in the Oxford goal.
Both sides pushed for the winner, whilst the penalty minutes clocked up, but neither could find the goal to settle the game and both had to accept a point each.
That point sees The Dynamos climb to second place in the NIHL South going into the final weekend before the Christmas break.
Kevin Parrish takes his side to Bracknell Hornets on Saturday night before returning to Gillingham on Sunday evening to face the London Raiders.
In what is expected to be a great game with fans bringing their teddies to toss on the ice for Demelza Hospice Care for Children, Parrish has hinted there could be a new face amongst the ranks ahead of next weekend.
