Three goals and as many assists from forward Callum Fowler helped the Invicta Dynamos record a resounding 12-0 victory over the Milton Keynes Thunder on Saturday evening in their twentieth outing of the 2012/13 campaign.

The Thunder arrived in Kent with just thirteen skaters and two netminders, and ‘import’ forward Maksims Petruks a noticeable absentee, and they were as good as out of the game at the close of the opening period as the Dynamos raced into a 4-0 lead. The deadlock was broken as early as the third minute, when Nicky Lewis teed up Nathaniel Rose for his fifth goal in Invicta colours, and that edge was doubled just moments later courtesy of build-up play from Andy Smith and Callum Fowler and a deadly finish from Canadian Peter Vaisanen.

Midway through and a coming together would then see the goalscorer dispatched to the penalty box, alongside blue liner Tim Smith and the Thunder’s Connor Goode, but, despite being a man down, the hosts only added to their lead. Nicky Lewis claimed his second assist of the evening as he played the puck to Justin Noble and the ‘import’ forward did the rest to put the Dynamos 3-0 up. When Nathaniel Rose was then called for cross checking soon after, the hosts grabbed yet another shorthanded effort to finish the frame with a four goal edge. Adam Copland and Callum Fowler both had a hand in the strike but Callum Best was the man to put the puck over the line to secure the commanding lead.

In the second period the Dynamos continued to dominate with Milton Keynes’ 16 year old netminder Jordan Hedley facing plenty of rubber and, despite the youngster making a number of fine saves, he we would be beaten a further five times. The Thunder initially held out until midway through the frame until then conceding five times in the space of eight minutes to fall 9-0 behind. Justin Noble started the scoring spree following a Joe Bliss pass to make it 5-0 and two Callum Fowler strikes, separated by just 14 seconds, stretched that edge to seven. Noble then completed his hat-trick, with Nicky Lewis completing a hat-trick of assists, before Andy Smith brought a close to the period with the Dynamos third shorthanded strike of the evening whilst Lewis sat for checking from behind.

With a deficit that was now fast approaching double figures, Milton Keynes began the final period with a change of netminder that saw Jordan Hedley return to the bench to be replaced by the more experienced Mark Woolf. The new face to the game would face twenty shots on his target over the final twenty minutes of play and he would concede three times to condemn his side to an emphatic 12-0 defeat. Having seen teammate Justin Noble secure a hat-trick at the close of the second, Callum Fowler began the third by completing one of his own to put the Dynamos 10-0 ahead. Anthony Leone then added his name to the score sheet as he latched on to a Noble pass before Peter Vaisanen brought the game to an end with the last of the night coming with just three minutes of play remaining.

So it was a commanding victory for the home side who were too strong for their shortbenched visitors and condemned the Thunder to an eighth consecutive NIHL South Division 1 defeat. Man of the match honours on the night went to Joseph day of Milton Keynes whilst David Wride took the accolade for the Dynamos having secured his second shutout of the season. Wride faced a total of 36 attempts on his net but stood firm to keep a frustrated Thunder at bay.
