It was a night to forget for the Invicta Dynamos as they lost 11-1 at home to London Raiders in the NIHL Cup on Sunday night.
In what seemed like a close pairing between two sides that could both win the game, one side turned up, whilst the other were nowhere to be seen.
Kevin Parrish’s side wilted under the pressure from their opponents and will spend the next week reflecting on what can only be described as a thrashing.
Both sides went into the game knowing all was to play for with the Raiders having edged their first encounter 5-4 the week before, but neither could have expected what was to happen in the following sixty minutes of play.
For the fans watching on, it appeared to be a tight game in the making from the off, with neither side giving an inch, but it was the visitors that opened the scoring in the 3rd minute as former Dynamos import Juraj Huska fired past a stranded Damien King.
A few skirmishes followed and the visitors then doubled their lead in the 13th minute as Matt Turner made full use of an Invicta defensive lapse to score despite the Raiders being shorthanded.
Less than a minute later and the game exploded into life as JJ McGrath flattened King and the ensuing melee saw Mason Webster trade blows with the Raider that ultimately saw the London man ejected from the game.
Two minutes into the five minute powerplay and the Dynamos pegged it back to 2-1 as Adam Rehak forced the puck home from close range past Euan King.
What happened after that can only be described as a disaster.
The Raiders were to score two more in the first period, three in the second and another four in the third.
Dynamos fans will do well to forget those nine goals as they sat with their heads in their hands.
The players alas will need to spend the rest of the week reflecting on where it all went wrong as they have Basingstoke Bison coming to Gillingham on Sunday night for their latest league clash.
